BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Windows on the World by Daphne Spraggett with Jill Johnstone
Friday 22nd March: Lectio Divina
‘All Scripture is God–breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.’ 2 Timothy 3:16
ACTION: What is your favourite Bible verse? Use it in prayer before God by repeating that verse three times. Has God revealed anything new to you about that verse?
Saturday 23rd March: Loneliness
‘Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.’ Psalm 25:16
QUOTE: ‘Prayer does not change God but it does change him who prays.’ G K Chesterton
Sunday 24th March: Warfare
‘For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.’ Ephesians 6:12
QUOTE: ‘In prayer, we stand where angels bow with veiled faces. There, even there, the cherubim and seraphim adore before the self-same throne to which our prayers ascend. And shall we come there with stunted requests and narrow, contracted faith?’ Charles Spurgeon
BOOK RECOMMENDATION: Prayer Warrior by Stormie Ormatian
Monday 25th March: Supplication
‘May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.’ Psalm 119: 170
QUOTE: ‘We must lay before him what is in us; not what ought to be in us.’ C.S. Lewis
ACTION: Think of five words that describe God for you. Is he limitless, awesome, powerful? Use these words when you interact with him.
Tuesday 26th March: The Jesus Prayer – Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
‘Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”‘ Acts 2:38
ACTION: Some advise that, “as you draw your breath in, say, or imagine yourself saying, ‘Lord Jesus Christ,’ and as you breathe again, ‘have mercy on me.'” Another option is to say – orally or mentally – the whole prayer while breathing in and again the whole prayer while breathing out.
Wednesday 27th March: The persecuted Church
‘Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’ Matthew 5:10
ACTION: Take a look at the Open Doors website. As you read through the list of countries where fellow Christians are persecuted, has God put a particular country on your heart? Commit to praying for the persecuted church in that country for 10 days.
