It’s not just their stories, it’s your story, it’s my story, it’s #OurSpringHarvest
To encourage you, over the next few weeks we will be releasing some of the stories of lives that have been disrupted and changed, sharing some of the fruit that has grown out of the pioneering Spring Harvest journey.
Here’s Becky’s story:
"My Spring Harvest journey starts in 1991. I was sixteen and had grown up in the church. I thought I knew what Christianity was like; and yet in all those years, I never experienced anything like Spring Harvest.
My memories are still clear; I would sit and look out my chalet window, marvelling as hordes of people strolled to the Big Top, Bibles tucked tightly under their arms. It occurred to me that this God thing must be true if so many people believed in it!
One evening, I heard Phil Wall preach from John 7. Phil explained the passage so clearly; if we were believers, rivers of living water should flow from our actions. He declared that although many of us grew up in the church, our faith was more like a stagnant pond than a fresh stream! In hindsight, Phil’s challenge was my first call to ministry.
Over the following years, my relationship God grew and solidified. I helped a friend set up a CU at our school, where we saw many friends become Christians. Later on, I moved away to start university and became involved in the local youth ministry. I saw God do some amazing things through our work in schools and conferences. Soon, I moved again to help lead a church - once again, I was empowered by God’s blessings.
Sadly, my husband had a breakdown and left the family, leaving me alone to care for our three children. It was time to rest from full time ministry and focus on my family. However, my break didn’t last for long! Through my church, I was offered the opportunity to serve
to serve on the 8-11s team at Minehead - and in the very same venue where I met God many years ago.
Of course, I accepted. Here I was, with my children, in the very place where God first entered my life. Needless to say, it was a special time for our family. I was even fortunate enough to share my story with some of the children in the 8-11s programme. They were amazed to learn that just as they were encountering God at Spring Harvest, I had once done the same.
I now practice my faith by caring for my children and fostering babies. I pray those streams of living water will still flow through my life!"
