It’s not just their stories, it’s your story, it’s my story, it’s #OurSpringHarvest
To encourage you, over the next few weeks we will be releasing some of the stories of lives that have been disrupted and changed, sharing some of the fruit that has grown out of the pioneering Spring Harvest journey.
Here’s Professor Graham H. Twelftree’s story, he's now the Academic Dean London, School of Divinity:
"In late 1978, a couple rang to tell me about a new conference they were planning to attend. They invited my family to join them on a week-long stay at ‘Spring Harvest’. At the time, I was busy finishing my PhD and was unsure whether I could afford to take the time out. However, my wife and I had been praying for this couple for two or three years. Perhaps Spring Harvest could help guide them towards meeting Jesus. And so, we agreed to come along.
A few weeks later, our friends rang again, this time to tell us they had converted!! Our two families travelled to Pontin’s Holiday Centre, Prestatyn, as brothers and sisters in Christ. We arrived in cars stocked with a week’s food and baby gear; between us, we had four little children from five years to one year old. I remember the cold that greeted us on arrival. We fed the gas metre with coin after coin of those (brand new!) 20 pence pieces to keep warm and cook food in our two adjoining chalets.
Then the week began. Never before had we seen so many Christians in a single place - over 10,000 of us! We four adults took turns babysitting so the other three could go to the sessions. Clive Calver took charge of the main events and every morning a speaker gave an impassioned study of the book of Daniel.
I am sure these talks were wonderful. I am equally sure that the breakout sessions were nourishing. However, it was the worship that was truly exhilarating and life changing. There was a new singer-songwriter, a 28 year-old Graham Kendrick, whose music and words were a breath of fresh air. His songs are what remained in our minds and, to this day, still remain in our worship. Better yet, the youth events were clearly engaging, as the two children who were old enough to go came back to our chalets almost chattering with excitement!"
