Did you know that one child goes into care every 15 minutes in the UK? That’s 36,000 children and young people entering care in any one year, with over 100,000 already in care. Those numbers shock us!
We can’t help but feel moved and motivated to be a part of the solution. That’s why Spring Harvest is pleased to announce a new event partner for 2024 and beyond. We are excited to reveal that Home for Good have become our main event partner for 2024.
Based in the UK, Home for Good is a charity dedicated to finding a home for every child who needs one by co-ordinating and resourcing a rapidly growing network of people, churches and local movements across the UK. They inspire individuals to explore fostering, adoption and supported lodgings for teenagers.
Partnering with Home for Good gives us a chance to play our part and see transformation for children and young people with care experience, whether the care they need is for a month, a year or a lifetime.
As Spring Harvest and Home for Good, we believe that there is an urgency for the Church who understand the power of prayer, to stand as one and pledge to pray, to advocate for every single one of the 36,000 children entering the care system in these next 12 months. Spring Harvest is partnering with Home for Good to raise up a praying movement, made up of you and me, our small groups and our churches to stand for those who cannot stand for themselves. Children and young people ask “who cares?”. We need to show them we care!
Abby Guinness, Head of Spring Harvest, said, “We’re all about contending for the next generation, to act as Jesus would do and bring tangible help and awareness that can change lives emotionally, spiritually and practically. Together with Home for Good, and right here in the UK, we want to grow the movement of those who pray so we can find a home for every child who needs one, cared for by people who can nurture them into adult life so they can reach their potential.”
Tarn Bright, Chief Executive of Home for Good said, “Children and young people need to know we care. Prayer is central to this, so we’re putting out a clarion call to the Church to secure 36,000 pledges to pray. Each pledge will activate a year of prayer holding one of each of the 36,000 children coming into care before the Lord and praying for a nurturing, safe and stable home to be found for them. Together, we really can make a huge difference to thousands of children and young people.”
An 11 year old adopted child* “My tummy mummy loved me but couldn’t keep me because she couldn’t keep me safe. That makes me sad. I needed another family to grow up in. I was chosen by my adoptive mummy, that makes me feel really special. She understands me and the things I find hard - together we’ve made a new family, she calls it our family-of-choice!”.
A 16 year old teenager in Supported Lodgings “I didn’t think anyone would want me. I’m funny and really like singing, but no-one really gets to see. *Ashley said I could live with them. I moved in last year and I feel like I belong. They care. If I went missing, someone would care. I haven’t felt that for a long time.”
An 8 year old child in foster care “my Dad isn’t well and my Mum died when I was four. *Jo and Sam are my foster carers. My social worker has said I can stay for as long as I need, until Dad gets well. Jo and Sam have a dog called Bluey who follows me around, I haven’t had a pet before! I call this home number 2!”
Spring Harvest will also be partnering with Compassion who work with churches in 27 countries internationally to release children from poverty in Jesus' name and Care for the Family as they share in delivering ministry to strengthen family life in all its forms across the UK.
These three partnerships give a clear picture of Spring Harvest’s strong and enduring commitment to children and young people.
