Jesus Christ is at the heart of the Christian faith. His life, work and teaching show us that God is our loving Father and that we can know God because his Holy Spirit is still working on earth today.
The Christian life is one of faith, trust and relationship. Christians are not perfect people - in fact we understand that we are far from perfect - but we know that Jesus understands our struggles and he has earned the authority to forgive us - to release us from our guilt - when we fall short and he has the power to build us back up. Jesus described becoming his follower as being like starting life again.
Prayer
Like all relationships there needs to be communication between you and God for the relationship to be healthy. You might like to use this prayer as the start of your investigation. If it is safe for you to do so try speaking it out loud, even if that feels a bit odd, but if you can only read it and pray it in your head God will hear that too.
Jesus Christ, thank you that you love me and accept me.
Thank you that you understand my difficulties, my mistakes and my struggles - I am sorry for them and I believe only you have the authority to forgive me and give me a new start.
Please help me from now to learn to know you more, to know the plans you have for my life and to know your power in me. I trust that you will never leave me but will lead me into your truth.

If you prayed that for the first time your life will have changed. Maybe not outwardly, and you may not even ‘feel’ that different, but you’ve made a decision to step towards God and he will step towards you.

Be strong. Keep talking to God about your hopes and fears and dreams. Expect him to speak to you too. He might speak through something you read in the Bible or something someone says to you in a church meeting, or in a dream – God has many different ways to talk to his children. Don’t expect to completely understand everything - you are on a journey of faith and trust. Many millions on that journey throughout the past 2,000 years have found it exciting, rewarding and of great comfort. We pray you find that too.
