The New Year is a wonderful time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the opportunities of the year ahead. Many of us will set New Year’s resolutions—not just as fun goals, but as powerful opportunities for faith-driven transformation.
We encourage you to approach this not just individually, but with your small group. Working together can bring encouragement, accountability, and shared growth. Here are three simple steps to help you and your group begin this journey:
1 - Faith - what are you believing for?
The New Year is an opportunity to renew your faith and trust in God’s plans for the year ahead. As you step into this fresh season, commit to seeking Him daily, knowing that He is faithful to guide and sustain you through every step.
Scripture
Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) - Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
Discussion
1. Where have you seen God working in your life over the past year?
2. What is one step of faith you’d like to take this year (e.g. starting a new habit of prayer, sharing your testimony, committing to a spiritual discipline)?
Action
Encourage the group to write down one faith-focused goal for the year. This could be as simple as committing to daily prayer, journaling scripture, or seeking out a mentor.
2 - Gratitude - what are you thankful for?
Gratitude has the power to shift our perspective. While our external circumstances may remain the same, choosing thankfulness transforms our attitude toward them, allowing us to experience greater joy and peace in everyday life.
Scripture
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) - Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Discussion
1. What are three things you are grateful for from the past year?
2. How does being grateful impact your daily life?
Action
Encourage the group to write down 3 things they are grateful for today. The could be friends, family, health, a new opportunity that has opened up in life.
3 - Growth - who do you want to become?
Growth comes through small, consistent steps—steps that, as Christians, are empowered by God’s grace. Often, this growth isn’t immediately visible, as God works within us, shaping our character and refining our hearts in ways that may be subtle but deeply transformative.
Scripture
Galatians 5:22-23 [NLT] - But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Discussion
1. In what area of your life do you want to see growth this year?
2. Which fruit of the Spirit have you seen in your life this past year?
Action
Encourage your group to write down three of the fruit of the Spirit they would love to see more of in their life this year.
Prayer
God, that you for this new year. I pray that it would be a year I walk by faith with you, am thankful for you, and grow closer to you. Amen.
